Scripture Reading

Joshua 1:8 ESV
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Introduction

Donald trumps key policy in the 2016 presidential campaign
UNHCR described 2015 as Europe’s year of refugee crisis
A wall evokes exclusion and separation
Today we are talking about a different kind of wall

Ellen G. White

Build a wall of scriptures around you, and you will see that the world cannot break it down. Commit the Scriptures to memory, and then throw right back upon Satan when he comes with his temptations, “It is written.” This is the way that our Lord met the temptations of Satan, and resisted them.–RH April 10, 1888. {LDE 67.2}

Joshua

Moses is dead and all eyes are upon him
God tells J. to be strong and courageous
But the most important advice is found in verse 8 of ch. 1

Meditate On The Word

What does it mean to meditate on the word?
Meditate on what you read (Psm. 199:15). The Hebrew word for "meditate" means to be intense in the mind. Meditation without reading is wrong and bound to err; reading without meditation is barren and fruitless.- Thomas Watson
We must read the Word
Spend time thinking about what God is saying to you personally
Memorise scripture to empower you

Spiritual Food

Jeremiah 15:16 (ESV)
16 Your words were found, and I ate them,
and your words became to me a joy
and the delight of my heart,
for I am called by your name,
O Lord, God of hosts.
If meditation is like eating good food
Scripture memorisation is the nutrients that give strength and build a wall of immunity from potential germs.

Conclusion

Why do you need a voice when you have a verse. - Jim Elliot
